Get Formula

The Get Formula activity allows you to extract formulas from cells when working with Microsoft Excel tables.

Activity settings

To open the settings window, click on the activity on the process diagram.

Parameters Tab

The Parameters tab displays the basic activity parameters.

Name. The activity name on the process diagram. It is set by the template when adding the activity. You can change the name if you need.

Path to Excel file. The Excel file location in the file system. When specifying the path, you can use process context variables that store the path or a part of the path. Click on the specify-variable-icon icon and specify the variable. You can select it from the list or add the new one by clicking Create parameter. This field supports only the String type variables. The value is inserted as {$variable name}. You can fill in the field manually following this format. Read more about process context variables in the "Process context" article.

Get sheet by. Select how to specify the sheet in the Excel file that you want to extract the formula from:

  • Number. In the Sheet number field, specify the sheet number in the Excel file;
  • Name. In the Sheet name field, specify the sheet name in the Excel file.

Get several. Possibility to extract formulas from multiple table cells at once.

Cell address. Specify the cell address you want to extract the formula from. If you need to extract the formulas from the several cells, specify the cell range. For example, B2 or A1:C3.

When you indicate the number, the sheet name, or the cell address, you can use values of the context variables. Click on the specify-variable-icon icon and specify the variable. You can select it from the list or add a new one by clicking Create parameter. This field supports only the String type variables. The value is inserted as {$variable name}. You can fill in the field manually following this format.

If the cell doesn’t contain the formula. Select the action that will occur if the specified cell doesn’t contain a formula. It is possible to extract the cell value or return an empty value.

Parameter. A variable that will store the found formulas. You can select the variable from the list or create a new one by clicking the add-button button. This field supports only the String type variables. If you activated the Get several option, as a result, you will receive a string array storing formulas from several cells.
